The crater floor measuring about 17 km in diameter, which is bisected by many lava steams and small volcanic cones from an ancient volcano, is one of the most impressive natural sights in Tenerife. In the north of the national park of "Las Cañadas del Teide" is the highest mountain in Spain, the 3,718 metre high Pico del Teide.
